HISTORY OF Lilybet press
Nearly a dozen years ago, I wrote a story for a local magazine about a memoir writing class at the El Dorado Hills (California) Senior Center. Most of the writers were older than I was, and I listened in awe to their recollections of life during the Great Depression and World War II. Every story was a treasure.
Folsom seniors need to be able to do this, I thought.
After my story was turned in, I proposed the idea to the Folsom Senior Center, and in January 2014 the Folsom Senior Center Memoir Writing Class came to be.
My first published book on Amazon was an anthology of class stories meant as a gift for the writers. In the following years, I published five more class collections and several memoirs and personal books for individuals.
With the founding of Lilybet Press, I am offering my publishing experience and journalism expertise to writers who want to preserve their stories — memoirs and other genres — but who may not be able to print them through traditional publishing houses. The goal of Lilybet Press is to give "self-publishing" writers the editing and design quality they would receive from big-name book publishers — but offer a more personal and affordable option.
Your memories are a precious heirloom to pass on and preserve. Please write them down!
I'd like to help. Contact me at 916/983-1388 or Lholderness@comcast.net.
As a lifelong journalist – newspapers, magazines, public relations, technical writing – good language, beautifully presented, is a passion to me. I strive to make every manuscript I publish not only error-free but compelling to read. The hallmark of my career has always been quality.
